Efficiency Upgrades FAQ

Questions homeowners ask.

These answers provide a useful starting point. Equipment and homes still need individual assessment.

Browse all HVAC questions
01Which HVAC upgrade saves the most energy?+

It depends on the existing system, home and operating habits. Heat pumps, controls, equipment replacement and airflow improvements each have different value in different homes.

02Can a smart thermostat improve efficiency?+

It can reduce unnecessary operation when properly configured, but it cannot fix equipment, sizing or distribution problems.

03Should I upgrade equipment before improving the building envelope?+

The best sequence varies. Envelope improvements can affect equipment sizing, so larger renovation plans should be considered together.

04Can you help with rebate requirements?+

We can provide equipment and project documentation within our scope and point you to official program requirements. The program administrator makes the final eligibility and approval decision.

05Where should an HVAC efficiency upgrade begin?+

Start with comfort problems, energy use, equipment condition and planned renovations. Testing and priorities are more useful than choosing a product first.

06Will new equipment fix uneven rooms?+

Not necessarily. Ductwork, balancing, controls, insulation and solar exposure may be responsible. Equipment replacement should be planned in that context.

07Can electrification be completed in stages?+

Often yes. Electrical capacity, water heating, space heating, cooling and envelope improvements can be sequenced around budget and equipment life.

08Should I complete insulation work before sizing HVAC equipment?+

Major envelope improvements can reduce heating and cooling loads. When possible, account for planned insulation or window work before final equipment sizing.
